Nature, Recreated

Harmony is the natural state that everything tends toward, from the environment to society and art. It embodies balance, the interplay between growth and decay, and the fundamental interconnectedness of all things. This is the guiding principle behind Aqualabs, the art we deliver, and the logo representing it all.

Standard aquarium keeping methods neglect harmony and rather rely on mechanical filtration, frequent water changes, chemical dosing and meticulous monitoring. Masking ecological imbalances rather than resolving them, these systems fall into a state of slow death kept alive on life support.

At AquaLabs, we take a different approach. Our aquariums reflect a living harmony that clients often describe as healing to observe. How do we achieve this? By grounding our methods in scientific research. Every tank is seeded with microbiome cultures from our studio laying the ecological foundation for higher order organisms—such as fish and shrimp—to thrive.

But microbes are only part of the story. We recreate pedagogical layers in the substrate to simulate nature. These layers are enriched with a complex blend of minerals, trace metals, and nitrogenous compounds—each integrated into the appropriate substrate stratum enabling the plants to express their most vivid colors.

About Aqualabs

AquaLabs is coloring San Francisco businesses with an art form that combines tradition and modernity. Our aquatic displays draw from the contemporary nature aquarium movement which is widespread and beloved in Japan. Each showpiece is the work of a local freelance artist. Founded by Jiro Nomiya, AquaLabs is unique in its industry as a single-person startup.
